the little mermaid arrives in manila shores

The seaweed is always greener in somebody else’s lake
You dream about going up there but that is a big mistake
Just look at the world around you right here on the ocean floor
Such wonderful things surround you What more is you lookin’ for?

As a child growing up in the nineties (and the eighties!) it is no doubt that Disney movies have been a great influence on us—and they have no doubt been slipping little tidbits about life here and there in their fairy-tale adapted movies. Whether it’s in song, glib dialogue (wherein the heroine says, this one is different. he’s honest and sweet and wouldn’t do anything to hurt me. to which the villain replies, HE’S A GUY), more serious central themes (the only way to get what you want in this life is through hard work!) behind the sugar coated, happily ever after lives, Disney has definitely influenced our way of looking at the world.

Barely twenty years later, Disney has moved on to making more technologically advanced animation films. And occasionally, musicals and stage plays. Admit it–the little kid inside all of us is curious to see our favorite heroes and heroines in the flesh. Lucky for us Philippine Disney Babies, this curiosity can soon be fixed–the Little Mermaid LIVE is here in Manila!

Catch the Little Mermaid LIVE in Manila’s last show on December 11 (Sunday) at 8PM in the Meralco Theater. You can contact 09178938426 / 09228978669 or visit TicketWorld for tickets. Group discounts and surprises are available if you contact the first two numbers.

Personally, I just want to see if Kiss The Girl is as magical with real people playing the characters as it was in the cartoon.

my oh my, look at that boy too shy, ain’t gonna kiss the girl.

(And yes, I choose to still believe that living happily is possible and achievable–whether it’s in a romantic situation or finding your freedom. If anything, Disney taught me to hold on to hope.)
